Great Journeys

We were due to run a series of outdoor classic screenings inspired by Great Journeys at the wonderful Trebah Gardens in 2020 but Covid19 had other ideas!

Life of Pi

Life of Pi at Trebah Gardens @ Trebah Gradens

Life of Pi | Dir Ang Lee | USA, Taiwan, UK, Canada | 121 minutes | 2012 | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy | PG

Leaving their home in India, taking with them their vast menagerie, the Patels board a ship bound for Canada. But when a devastating storm strikes, Pi finds himself adrift on a lifeboat with a 450-pound Bengal tiger for company. If he is to survive this most perilous situation, Pi must search deep inside to discover his inner strength, courage and resourcefulness. Based on Yann Martel’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel, this is an extraordinary, life-affirming tale about survival, spirituality and storytelling.

“a beautiful, emotionally resonant tale of faith, friendship, and perseverance”

Thelma & Louise

Thelma & Louise | Dir Ridley Scott | USA, UK, France | 130 mins | 1991 | Adventure, Crime, Drama | 15

Centred around powerful performances from Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, which earned both of them Oscar nominations for Best Actress. Louise is a bored housewife and Thelma a straight-laced waitress. They are best friends who decide to escape the tedium of their everyday lives in a ’66 T-bird convertible for a three-day trip, along the way a would-be rapist transforms their quiet getaway into a cross-country escape.  This iconic road movie remains as powerful and thematically relevant as it was on release in 1991 and also features Brad Pitt in his first main film role with Harvey Keitel, directed with by Ridley Scott
