|UNDER ( 8 JAN 2016)|
CAST Film Club screenings resumed on Friday 8th January with a documentary on the art of free diving by BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Martina Amati. Titled ‘Under’, this 34-minute documentary was subsequently made into a multi-screen film installation, premiered at P3 in London in October.
In 2012 Amati was awarded a Wellcome Trust Large Arts Award, which enabled her to work with masters of free diving and scientists who research its effects on the human body. She teamed up with Professor Kevin Fong, Co-Director of the Centre for Altitude, Space and Extreme Environment medicine and an honorary senior lecturer in physiology at University College London, to explore the physiological effects of free diving.
In ‘Under’, Amati expresses her lifelong passion for free diving, the act of swimming underwater on a single breath of air without breathing apparatus.
Martina Amati and her cameraman Daan Verhoeven will come to CAST to present the film and take part in a Q&A following the showing of two of Amati’s shorter films, also titled ‘Under’, which are usually presented as part of a gallery multi-screen installation.
